DEC 2006: An update on the product that will further the boundaries of modern on-set video assist. We confirm that CockpitCube will have all the industry has been longing for:
- multicamera support
- file interoperability
- live mixing capabilities
- integrated editing
- low cost
- possibility to customize
- software that runs on any notebook/laptop PC and/or intelMac with Windows XP or Vista.
- Multicamera: as demoed at past Cinec (Munich, sept 2006), soon-to-be released CockpitCube version supports 2 cameras on almost any laptop PC with old Centrino CPU and 512Mb of ram. We are working to get 4 cameras but this will require some extra months.
MacIntel is, for now, limited to 1 camera due to hardware limitations. Each video channel is completely independent from the others (one records and the other can playback) but they can work in perfect synch when needed. Not to mention PAL and NTSC compatibility.
- File interoperability: as demoed at past Cinec, CockpitCube lets the user decide the file format to record with. AVI type 1 and 2 are both supported.
Regarding the use of AVI files with Mac, we won't give direct recording support for QT files, for the moment. Instead we are concentrating our efforts on MXF support, the industry standard of the immediate future.
- Live mixing capabilities: as demoed at past Cinec, CockpitCube allows for real time mix of any feed - live and/or recorded on disk (we call this functionality RT&L: RealTime & Live). The available RT&L layers are 3. The 2 live feeds can be mixed together as well.
- Integrated editing: fast, easy to use, rough cut audio/video editing
- Low cost: by running on a PC platform, the cost related to the hardware is slashed almost by 50% when compared to an equivalent intelMac, PLUS CockpitCube doesn't require a Centrino Duo to run in the first place. The only needed accessories are: Canopus DV converter(s), external hard drive(s).
This allows any professional to have along, at the very least, a low cost backup system, in case the main one ceases to work for any reason. CockpitCube requires a USB dongle to run and this gives you the ability to install multiple copies of it across any number of different videoassist carts or backup machines, to be used when needed.
- Customization: CockpitCube is designed from the ground up to be customized with a number of plugins: RT&L chroma and luma key, 2 and 3D DVE, external TC gen support, MXF support, GPI/O triggering, frame-lines generator, timeline editing, advanced metadata database, external J&S support, etc. just to mention a few. The basic version will be made very affordable (and also easy to purchase: credit card payment and internet software download), while the most advanced users can tailor their installation for the most demanding jobs (all upgrades available by immediate internet download, too).
We are striving to keep our promise of releasing CockpitCube in 1st quarter 2007.
A demo version freely redistributable will also be available. We will do our very best to stick to the deadline.
Stay tuned.
